I had a rare maximum bet on Shishkin at 8/11 yesterday as I think 1/2 is closer to the correct odds. I believe he is faster than Energumene and, crucially, that his jumping is a key weapon.
For me, Shishkin is a natural fencer whereas Energumene is workmanlike at best and a touch clumsy looking at times. He regularly swings his back end in mid-air, a habit that will be costing energy, and for all he jumps right at times, I suspect he might be better suited to going left handed. I hope Nico does not track him closely or the dreamers could end up with a nice forecast on the other two.
I wonder if Willie's thoughts here encompass a possible tilt at the Ryanair with Energumene should he be trounced tomorrow.
What do you think?
Joe
I don't want to sound complacent, but I didn't lose hope by any means; this is a wonderful horse who's USP is that gear change at the end of his races. He's just been sauntering in second or third gear all his chasing career. Had to go into 4th yesterday. I suspect he has a fifth too!
You must be mightily relieved Joe ?
Winner showed real guts, to go with his class. Never looked like winning that, till the last 50 yards.
Great race + roll on the rematch.
My main thought is its a race that deserves more than 4 runners!
But for betting purposes Shishkin looks over priced at 8/11. Its not a horse i'm in love with but obviously finds its stride, despite Nico, and wins with comfort in general. WM could easily be playing the long game with Energumene but at least its there to make it a race.
