Marshalled: "in rear, not fluent 1st, hit 4th, mistake next, not fluent 8th, not fluent 3 out, went 3rd after 2 out, no impression". This is a horse that won two hurdles and two chases in Ireland and never had any noticeable jumping issues. Classic JP/Haslam project: Come to the Middleham Fat Camp if you need to shed a few pounds..
Someone thinks today is the day for the lightly raced Chumlee (Newcastle 4.45), who has been well backed into 5/1. I certainly think he is not without a chance, principally because this is the time of year to be interested in Sandy Forster's horses. She has had two winners this month, last April she had three and the combination of spring in the air and heavy ground is what seems to bring her horses to life. She specialises in slow and steady chasers and heavy ground favours that type because they don't get too far behind in testing conditions like we see at Gosforth Park today. I am also intrigued by bits and pieces of form in Irish points, especially a race three years ago which was won by Oscar Elite (now with J Tizzard and winner of the Reynoldstown NC this year, rated 139), with Here We Have It in second (now with Laura Morgan, winner in December off 102) and - wait for it - Tommy's Oscar in third, a star for the Hamiltons and rated in the 150s. Now Chumlee was going well in that starry race and was in the lead when carried out by a loose horse five from home. OK, it's many moons ago but the engine was there and it might just be that he could show what he is made of today. The others have no form on heavy ground so how they will act is unknown. Best of luck to Sandy and talented conditional Patrick Wadge.
The desperate search for a big price winner continues...
So let's hope Black Lightning (4.20MR) can strike!
I was tempted to pick one in the 2.50 at Navan, the imaginatively named: Navan Racecourse Race. But surely French Claim with a 3rd to Stone Age and Westover last year can win that?!
Grandad's Cottage annoyed me by romping home at Wetherby on 27th Dec as I backed the horse he beat. I'll give him another opportunity to do for me
Nap MR 1435 Skytastic
or will I have my revenge?
Having successfully ignored Cheltenham ante post lures I've had 3 for the Lincoln. 1 non runner, 1 way too light and I'm waiting for another to come out so Billy the Kid can have his chance. Will I ever learn? Probably not.
APOB is certainly sending his Blue Bloods out to Navan today.
Great to hear him talk about the Triple Crown for Auguste Rodin but I cannot get a price.
I did Guineas and Derby pretty early and my Bookmaker is pleading with me to lay off my one euro bets.
I have done Kingsbarns for the American Triple Crown in lieu at 50/1 but cannot get a price for Auguste Rodin for the equivalent.
Coupon Day.
I am tempted to nap Goolagong in then 16.00 as I had I had a pre-teen Crush on Yvonne, the Tennis Player well before Cathy Freeman carried that Aboriginal Flag at the Olympics.
I am torn between the purple breds in the last Race. 17.35
A full brother to Saxon Warrior in the shape of Drumroll.
However my nap is sired by yet another Japanese Stallion out of Happily called Ballsbridge which is a posh nightmare suburb in Dublin.
I am really impressed he is blinkered first time out.
It's a sure sign of Spring when you share your thinking about the dark horses lurking in the Ballydoyle Academy - the St Trinian's of horse racing (a mixture of some absolute beauties and more than a few little minxes).
Kim Bailey made a nice comment about Aidan O'Brien yesterday: "an extraordinary man and an extraordinary family." He went on: "I remember co-judging the 3 and 4 year old store horse classes at Doncaster Sales with Aidan in May 19….. I needed a catalogue to read the pedigrees. Aidan knew them off by heart."
I see Sue Magnier has a 3yo filly, Unchained Melody, that ran third in the 10f handicap. There can not be many of Coolmore's rated 55. Did M. Tabor and D. Smith turn up their noses at this one? Or have they just parked this one at Donnacha's to kaep her occupied till she goes to the paddocks?

All that glitters in the ling 3.55 . It's about 40 to 1 so I'll take it ew. All an apt attempt to catch Jake obviously and get the Gold medal.
