Did anyone notice that Chris Cook tipped Fastorslow for the Gold Cup today, which won at 40-1. He had some interesting thoughts about it which convinced me. That was in his RP "Front Runner".
Stuart Crawford had a 80/1 winner at Perth today. How on earth did you miss that? I'd say you're in danger of losing your touch Jake. You might want to look at pig racing (see post below)
Jake, rather than simply waiting to lift another printed trophy above your head, I do hope you have been backing your selections and winning hard cash! You have been inspired this month and must now have passed the £1K returns total for April. Very well done.
Apart from the pandemic, this is the first Punchestown festival I’ve missed in years. I remember having a terrible day’s betting 20+ years ago and the only winner I selected was in a pig race on Naas high street after racing. Saved my bacon.
It's hard to come out ahead at Punchestown. Good horses at the end of a long season, three or four from WP Mullins in the graded races - but which one is the freshest? Energumene was a case in point yesterday. My certainty of the week got turned over in the banks race because the ground was livelier than advertised. Now I'm on the lookout for a pig race in East London!
It can be tough alright Harry. I remember Sprinter Sacre just scraping home. There's Grade1s, fiercely competive handicaps, banks races, bumpers full of debutants and the Bishopstown cup for Kildare farmers. It's one place where I'd say you can dismiss 3/4 of the field with a quick visit to the pre-parade ring.
The Bishopscourt Cup has more plots than series 9 of Morse. The jockey who rode last year's winner is riding a horse this time with form figures of 2F4UUU. He needs to wear his lucky pants on Friday. But the plotter-in-chief Shark Hanlon has the one for me, Speaker Thomas. One to watch in the market - the Kildare farmers have plenty of EU setaside money to spend. Then later on Friday there's the Champion Hunters Chase which is a who's who of the Irish hunters, but they have all been in some wars this season so which of them has any bullets left? I'm hoping Vaucelet will recover losses after being hampered by a loose horse when going well at Cheltenham. He's had a longer break than several of the others and the more the ground dries the better.
Fans of the TV series Ozark will be intrigued to see the formidable Wendy Byrde gracing Ludlow with her presence in the 4yo bumper. And as she is the half-sister of the connections' winning hurdler Marty Byrde, she is an interesting debutante today. Her price has already contracted form 14/1 to 9/1. Never underestimate the Byrdes.
Fifty million is small fry for John Magnier. In 2018 he sold a Modigliani for $157m (having bought it for less than $30m) . Chris Cook wrote a very funny piece about Magnier's attitude to art.
For me, April is living up to its reputation as the cruellest month. I’ll get the pain over early today. Ve Day in the first at Ludlow is the selection.
Very nice work yesterday from Highflying and Gaz, plus yet another from Luke who I notice has been on a good recent run. 👏
I was taught by my Father never to rip up a betting slip by overthinking. Your first thought is the best.
I ripped one up albeit electronically
In overthinking a straight forecast for Energumene to beat Chacnon Pour Soi in a SF as I knew the latter was not dead yet. That could have been like 27 euros of a 1 euro Stake which is enough to keep my Wolf away from the door for 3 months or more.
My nap today is today is Andy Dufresne who I expect to start in double digits it the 17.05. Punchestown. e.w.
I would have have recognised him on the basis of his weird Palate/Mouth Features.
I actually stroked him on the head on the way down to the 1984 Irish Derby starting stalls .They were were going down really slow and Horses came across teenage idiots like me who were standing at the Rails at the Curragh but it felt like we knew we were always bonded.
Lucinda Russell and Ruth Carr, two trainers that I like to follow have 13 runners out on Wednesday...the weather bodes well for my rc flying tomorrow so will be out for most of the day.
Taking a chance on Seven For a Pound 15:25 EW Nap..only because it is the biggest price...and Ruth Carr likes to spring surprises.

Marettimo 3.15 Ludlow won SP 25/1.I have never known a home straight to seem so never ending.
Hitching Jacking in the Perth 15,00 - an interesting listed race. Perth doesn't get tons.
Huelgoat 2.00P.
Ludlow 1.45 - Postmark.

Hipop Des Ongrais 3.15Lud
Robert Walford is "red hot"/"on fire" etc. 6 runners in last fortnight and 5 winners. Nice.
Shame about the name (of the horse).
Two years ago today Guiri won at the Punchestown Festival.
Runs off the same mark today in the 2.40 at Ludlow.
33s last night. Nibbled down to 16s. I'll make him today's optimistic nap.
Good story here about a small trainer
"‘Astapor stormed to victory on 200-1 odds and became the joint biggest-price flat winner in Britain’"
