A cracking nap from Jakebuckfast in 12/1 winner Caroline Dale. Winners too for Loose Buttons (again!) Kaboo 4/6 and for Luke H with Excelling at 11/4. Very well done to you all.
I think they call it a hostage to fortune, when you name your horse with hope in your heart and then fate intervenes. Prime example, the Down Royal novice chase, Ujumpthelastuwin - fell at the last. "As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods"
Well it is the 25th of the month which means I am minus 250 in the naps table so to precipitate a surge up the table I am going for Koeman in the first at Lingfield. Everything looks set, I just hope he goes a bit better than when he managed the blue noses.
@Cream tangerine You're leaving your challenge late, CT. Fashionably late. I'd say that you are coming with a wet sail inside the final furlong, only the kids wouldn't have a clue what I was on about.
@Harrytheactor I fear a rancid 66-1 shot on the 31st will be called for, much as the Morning Star used to do when I kept an eye on the naps table many moons ago!! That said I did think if young George had ridden with more vigour in that last 400 yards he might have seen off the favourite. He seemed to ease off a little and missed the outside runners who seem to do so well at Leafless when it is a bit on the parky side.
Well done Jake yesterday finding another decent priced winner.
Nothing from me today so I had a look at the claimers again. Is there something of a competition going on in Olly's stable? Lewis on Tinnahalla and Daire on MFY in the same race again! Maybe the other owners don't fancy claimers on their horses. Daire mugged Lewis at the post last time when T was more fancied in the betting. Since then Lewis' mount has had a wind op and benefits by a few lbs. Daire's had another race and ran well again. I backed Daire's ride both times and am developing into fan, or pervert as the social media trolls would have it, so sorry Joe but
intersting Interview with Rich Ricci after the win at Haydock. Says he had bought a lot of horses after the Gigginstown dispersal and had a lot injured or not make it. i suppose it highlights how hard it can be to keep
horses sound and even an owner with some serious cash in his pocket needs some luck.
He is fortunate to have some serious horses in the last number of years. I loved Vautour and Annie power. Also its a real shame Monkfish is injured as he would have been a welcome addition to the gold cup field this year.
No bets today but a horse has popped up in the tracker for tommrow Big bad Buzz - I think I may have put it in from a comment by Harry weeks ago. Runs in the 3.40 catterick. Harry you may need to help me figure out why I put it there …..
I made the serious error of passing over a tracker horse called Lower Street the other day as I had not written my comments and it duly obliged at 10-1. Il try not to make the mistake again!
Big Bad Buzz is interesting in the last at Leicester. The bookies have started to treat Ryan Potter with wary respect after a couple of touches he has pulled off this season. Hence this horse's price hasn't exactly collapsed but he was backed at 8s and 7s as soon as the prices were put up yesterday. Today it has been stable at around 9/2. It's plenty short enough on the face of it, considering his moderate form over hurdles. But BBB makes his debut in a handicap chase on a lowly mark having shown distinct promise in Irish points when trained by Sean Doyle, source of so many good jumpers over the years. After unseating at the last on his debut he did the same next time but only after being hampered two out by the fall of Pull Again Green, a nice horse who has won twice for Fergal O'Brien this winter. That race was won by the smart Fameaftertheglory of Gavin Cromwell's .... [He then ran with some promise in a PTP bumper, showing enough for Potter to take a punt on him]
And after the race I added:
HarrytheactorJan 12
He's one to be on next time when he's not out of the handicap (7lb wrong today). Looks like this was a sighter.
[The form of the race has been tested just the once so far, the runner-up winning next time off 89 at Ludlow.]
The snag tomorrow, Steelman, is that he is again 6lbs wrong in the handicap, his mark having dropped another 3lbs after the Leicester outing. The obvious solution would be to put up a good claimer but for now Callum Bewley is given the job again. I would ignore the early betting exchanges and monitor the market immediately before the race to assess whether Buzz is "off". I am pretty sure he is capable at some stage. As we speak Buzz is 4/1, hardly a giveaway so the bookies are once again on Potter alert. Of the others, Getaway Jewel is better than he showed on his chase debut, while Adrian Wintle has booked Brian Hughes for Thais Thor, so keep an eye on the market for him.

@Harrytheactor thanks Harry, il keep an eye. I hadnt seen the race priced up but I see Hills have.
