Naps Table Update
The final day of the January competition brought a winning nap from El Gran Senor - Classic Getaway - and a well priced placed horse for David: Sir Robbie at 16/1. Nice work, fellas.
I think I can safely say that Jakebuckfast has won the January naps prize with some astonishing tipping. I'll go through the figures tomorrow, taking a look from different angles and post a report. In case I've maybe missed something big, I'll hold off on formal congratulations to Jake.
Good luck all for February (at least it's a short one)
Joe
Ravenscar won at 5/1. (perhaps thinking out loud has its merits)
He did, but that was probably because he was consigned by the Monbeg Doyle brothers, normally a reliable source of quality pointers. They paid only 10k for him and managed to get him a crucial 1 next to his name before the sales. That race was a very weak auction maiden run in a very slow time and he manged to get over the line in front. The others are useless. Mind you, Noel Fehily liked him enough at the sales to pay 68k for his racing syndicate, so he may be a diamond in the rough - Tahmuras, I mean, not Noel, who is very well polished already. Paul Nicholls doesn't run many at Ffos Las let alone in a bumper but he may feel this is a suitably weak event to give this one a chance. Good luck.
Like Cornsay I had a look at Ravenscar as I backed the one that beat it, just. Ravenscar is yet to win over obstacles yet has been raised 4lbs and now doesn't have a claimer on so is 9lbs worse off, which seems harsh and a tough call.
I've worked out I am rooster so my selections will be all to cock.
Nap 1620 FLas Tahmuras
for the sole reason I think it cost more than the others
NAP Roxanya 3.30 Newcastle.
No No Tonic 3.50
Jaunty Viking at Ffos Las for the nap.
Nap 1.40 Limerick - Earths Furies
Safety First - 18.50 Wolverhampton (nap)
As a sort of exercise for myself, I'm going to try and post both a tip and a reason each day this month (or each weekday, anyway). The reasons aren't often much good, especially since I don't get to watch nearly as much racing as I'd like, but I want to sort of clarify my own thinking as way to improve it. You all should feel free to ignore me. So today: Ravenscar, 15:30 Newcastle. Beaten just a neck last time out by a horse rattling up a hat-trick, and up just 4lb for that. Still towards the bottom of the weights, similar distance and ground. It is a step up in class but that's probably reflected in the price. Seems like a horse that will win a race like this soon.
Also considered Desque de Lisle in the 14:20 at Ffos: C&D winner, yard going well, different jockey than the last three less successful runs: looks a strong case.
Blumen Glory with 4 2nds from 9 races seems an ideal nap in the 13:50 at Flos Las
)n The Bandwagon 1.50 Ffos Las is the nap.Well done yesterdays winners.
Romeos Bond 14:50 Ffos Nap
5.20W King of War is the nap
Pageant material nap (ffos las, 15:50)
Mick's Spirit -19.20 Wolverhampton is the nap
Sounds Russian 2pm Newcastle to kick off the month
Dedanser 2.30N.
Not that the scorers will worry too much about developing a RSI, I will try to make a more concerted effort to come up with a daily offering.
Today's nap is Sevenna Star in the first at Limerick.
I think I might be double posting but La Prima Donna in the 14.40 at a Racecourse in the vagaries of Limerick City (circa Patrickswell) is my nap today.
Depending on time zone we are entering the Year of the Tiger.
Jakebuckfast might have been born in the year of the Ox which is passing and did not indeed do a Robert Johnson deal with Beelzebub as was scurrilously sugggested by Jamie yesterday who implied he might have met at a crossroads between Corals and William Hill (but forgot Ladbrokes)
That has is all gone now and those who were born in the Year of the Tiger are in the ascendancy for the next Lunar year.
Alas, I was born in the year of the Snake (and I never complained. It always helped me generally).
Greenrock Abbey. Ffos Las 1.50.
I managed to get on ew at 11/1, so Fingers crossed for that.
Well done Jake !
