Tim Donworth's filly Alpenblume ran a commendable close-up 4th in the Listed stayers' race for 3yo fillies at Longchamp today. Returning from a short break and stepping up in class she stayed on stoutly, as all Kirsten Rausing's horses are bred to do. Donworth is making the most of the opportunities he is getting from training for such a prominent owner-breeder.
Here's the video. Be warned, though, that the commentator, whoever he was, makes no effort to pronounce the names of most of the field. Fortunately for him the first two home were Sea The Sky and Divine Jewel which he just about managed.
Like Leo yesterday I also had my first winner of the month. Although most of my naps were placed, one managed to come last despite being clear by 15 lengths with 3 furlongs to go. If Leo felt deserving of a single squiggle I felt I was heading for a double squiggle. My only memories of seeing a double squiggle horse in action was at Lingfield back in the 80s, and if my memory is correct was called Ta Morgan. He was slow to come out of the stalls and came to a dead stop after a 100 yards. After much urging and persuasion from the jockey he trotted around to the finish looking pretty pleased with himself listening to the cheers of the crowd.
i occasionally put a few shillings on some of the horses picked here on the basis that the picker must have spent at least a few minutes looking at the race ( i know this may not always be the case from personal experience....) Sadly yesterday wasn't one of them when there might have been a nice return.
GForce says below that Eshaada should the nap and indeed it is from me - Don 3.10. If it lands at 13 to 8 or so i'll be perfectly content.
"acrophobia is treatable with a psychological therapy called exposure therapy"...the mind boggles. Surely not by ascending the Bologna towers!? They would be truly terrifying venues for Alfred Hitchcock to torture yet another female heroine...(Kim Novak, etc).
I can't remember being opposed to betting competitions per se, it was just the methodology that Chris Cook used which I queried, I think. They just were not for me.
I am not sure from your description if your cat's behaviour is that of a rampaging, ravenous beast desperate to wolf down its dinner or that of a reticent, suspicious, consummately careful creature eventually putting its nose over the speciality dinner before venturing the end of its long tongue once , twice, three times, then starting a slow, watchful chewing. (Better not give EGS the idea that I actually like this...)
Padua is not a city I have visited, except vicariously through reading The Taming of The Shrew.
