I use irishracing.com (not that is seems to do me much good....). It too is free, I get an email advising me of entries and also an email afterwards, advising of the finishing position.
Good luck. You can look forward to some exasperating days like I've had today when I decided Russian Virtue had no effing chance! I suppose the nap setting off in rear and staying there under a sympathetic ride made it worse!
A quiet Thursday and 14 in the tracker, 9 at Carlisle which is obviously more important than Cheltenham. Must need a clear out, I mean, Hometown Boy has come up and its nearly 3 years since his hooves saw the track. Ghandi Maker in the last is a horse I like, but the fav is stablemate with no form whatsoever. Both have shortened - explain that. Today's no hoper
Sometimes I am embarrassed to be English. It's the small examples of insularity that get me. Yesterday Ben Brookhouse was talkingabout some of his horses on ATR and in discussing his recent bumper winner Brechin Castle he was asked by the man in the studio how to pronounce the name. Is it Breechin? "Not sure," said Ben, "we call him Bretchin - I think that's the way to pronounce it."
Oh for god's sake, it's not that hard to find out, is it? Brechin is pronounced Breekin. Has no one heard of Brechin Castle, a whacking great pile in Angus? If not, surely they listen to the football results and hear how Brechin City got on?
You would think a trainer would want to find out a bit about their horse's name just in case some damned fool of a TV presenter happens to ask about it on live TV.
Yes. Football Results. Alexander Gordon nailed it with East Fife 4 Forfar 5.
I could say there are embarrassing attempts by Race Commentors to call Jim Bolger's Horses but I managed to fail Irish at the equivalent of A Level in Ireland so cannot be judgemental
Or even Forfar 4 East Fife 5. A true tonguetwister.
I'm still reeling from the decision by the BBC to axe "the classified football results" from Sports Report at 5pm on a Saturday. I'm afarid I lost patience with Auntie at that point and now we're done. Charlotte Green was supposedly devasted to be shown the door after proving a very able successor to the great James Alexander Gordon. Even typing this I can feel my blood pressure going up.
I have fond memories as a young kid of coming out QPR and crossing the road to my Great Uncle's house. He would be sitting there at the kitchen table checking his pools coupon while the scores were read out. Silence ruled for those five minutes or so.
A couple of recent winners for me out today - i will take Zwicky as the Nap Carlisle 17.05. the other is The Caltonian who romped up a few days ago but will be pretty darn short.
I’ve only got one tracker going today. While Giovinco’s win at Perth was mightily impressive, this appears quite a deep contest for the time of year. He does look out of the top drawer though and a typical Lucinda Russell chaser.
My tracker is currently full of flat horses with dwindling marks who I’m convinced will appreciate some cut in the ground.  Much to my dismay, it looks as though a number of them have already been put away for the season.🙄       Â
In her Hills blog Lucinda says: 'The Brown Advisory looks the logical long-term aim. He’s certainly got the profile for it and ability-wise it looks well within his parameters'
Well within ... that's a bold statement and I've had a tenner at 25s and backed him today. Good luck.
The fact is that because of the unbalanced race programme we now have, there is not a single graded 3m novice chase until the Mildmay at Aintree in April. I'm sure this anti-northern bias has been one of the main reasons behind Lucinda setting up her satellite yard with Michael Scudamore, which will make it much easier to campaign her good horses in the south. But not many trainers have the financial wherewithal to do that - they really ought to be able to prepare their best animals in good races nearer to home.
Giovinco jumped superbly until that mistake 3 out. I don't know if Stephen Mulqueen has a crest, but if he has it will be ‘fallen’.
I'd be tempted to keep the winner in novice chases & then throw him into open handicaps at Cheltenham, Ayr or Aintree? Giovinco though, looks graded material. A proper, fine stamp of a horse.
Zwicky won at 5 to 1. Same as last race, lovely patient ride from sean quinkan.
Mount Sinai won the 14.35. Clonmel who was my nap at 3/1
Castle Field Boy won at 5/1
NAP Alaphilippe, 3.55 Carlisle.
Voix du Reve 3.20 Car nap(!)
Glad to see Baciodilupo didn't have another PU last night - it was last :P
It was 50-1 though, and his pick Slugger, I still think puts him about £100 in front of me this month... time for a big price or bust....
3.20 Carlisle well educated
Nap: Adjuvant, 14:55 Lud
What trackers do people recommend? Would quite like to get one started as the jumps season gets going.
