Joe, I also napped a winner on Tuesday: Primo’s Comet won Musselburgh’s 4.45 at 11/8.
I accept that the 2yo form is still evolving but I thought Dance In The Grass was a very impressive winner on debut. It was over C&D where she thrashed a highly regarded one of Appleby’s that subsequently won a decent contest at the Eclipse meeting.
Sometimes a steamer can catch the eye. I looked at the money for Wonderful Thing yesterday, in from 33s to 5, ok drifted on course to 11s, but even I was put off that in 4 races it had managed to beat only 4 of 38 rivals. Don't know if the stewards had a look.
Steamers often catch they eye dont they? When watching racing i often follow the money when it seems to be down - especially a horse where they pile on late...I'd say those bet comes in more often than they don't but its just you're luck if you're watching at the same time as a "plunge".
The stewards noted Mick Appleby's explanation: the horse appreciated the drop back to 8f and more positive tactics (having been 'always in rear' and 'never a factor' and 'always behind'). 'More positive tactics = 'the money was down'. The jockey also got 4 days for careless riding.
Its a quiet bit of year with holidays. The summer jumps have been poor this year too with the Skeltons in particular seeming to largely ignore after years that got them established there..
I know many don't like summer jumps as its a hard shift for staff. Seems to have been a change this year
