Good to see Royal Kahala go in and land the nap. My three in the Thyestes are Brahma Bull, who's run some cracking races recently, Franco De Port, one I've been following this season, and Ontheropes.
I am now officially old. Horses names are being reused and I see that an old favourite of mine, Large Action is running today at Wetherby.
The original Large Action was a favourite of mine, often flattering to deceive in many ways, looking like a champion hurdler in waiting at one point.
I have vague memories of Mrs Stewart Brown being interviewed on C4 once and asked about the name. She smiled a little coyly and suggested the horse was named after her husband..
A decent run in third but I think he was a bit too keen in the hands of young Liam Harrison who hadn't ridden him before. He just run out of puff at the end. I'll be interested to see whether they book Brian Hughes next time, as he doesn't miss a trick!
A lot of support in the morning market for Real Armani in the first at Wetherby. I hope it heralds a first winner of the season for Jane Walton. Based at Otterburn up in north Northumberland, she doesn't often tow the horsebox as far afield as Wetherby which, as racing parlance has it, is "a tip in itself". He has run at Hexham on his last nine outings, so going down to Wetherby will seem like a nice day out for him. He's a very game and consistent old battler but gets little respite from the mean old handicapper who likes to reward horses who fiddle around at the rear of the field until one day they try their best. Armani won two on the bounce last March, both at Hexham of course, and must be thought ready to justify his mark of 98 today. I wish Jane well, especially as the horse carries the famous colours of her dad Alistair Charlton, as worn latterly by that classy Cheltenham specialist Knockara Beau who ran no fewer than seven times at the festival, including twice in the Gold Cup. He's probably best remembered for his sensational win in the Cleeve Hurdle when, at 66/1, he beat At Fishers Cross and Big Buck's. By that time Alistair's son George had taken over the licence, but Dad was still very much involved. He was by no means a one-hit wonder as he sent out over 300 winners from his Stocksfield farm and was always one to sell on a nice horse if the price was right. His most famous discovery was Tidal Bay who he sold to Graham Wylie for £300k after two quiet runs in bumpers. Good luck today, Jane.
What a great race the Thyestes is. I've a real warm spot for it based on my pocket naturally enough. I'd taken SWMBO to some sort of accessories/perfume etc do at the local and while she was being persuaded to buy all manner of things to make my life better I was stood at the bar thinking that I'd get some sort of recompense by investing a similar amount on the National. That day Numbersixvalverde won the Thyestes and I duly got stuck in. No matter it was the same price on the day, the wheelbarrow was filled! It was also probably the last time I backed the winner. Anyway, unsurprisingly Magic Mullins is a serial winner so
Nap 1505 Thurles Brahma Bull
which kinda suggest Townend doesn't know what he's doing throwing his leg over a hcp debutante that may have been laid out for the race but I'm in the fearless zone!
Trimmers Lane is the nap in the first at Wetherby. I’m also intrigued by Micky Hammonds other horse, the ex-Fabre, Piecederesistance in the following race.
Sholokjack wins at wetherby 15:15 - 6/4. Wont catch Jake with that but helps my monthly profit and loss a bit...
Mr Whipped won 6/1 (2.15W)
Sholokjack won 6/4

Thyestes at Gowan Park.
Sholokjack nap (wetherby 15:15)
I haven't a clue what Wheest means but Trimmers Lane sounds more like a naughty Euphemism to me than Wheest. Best of luck with both naps.

I’d never normally use such language on this forum but (haud yer) Wheesht is the nap in the 15.45 at Wetherby.
