Back in the groove on Wednesday with some good results (and one catchup from Tuesday - apologies). If I've left anyone out, I apologise; please leave a message on this thread and I'll update.
I'm slightly alarmed to see Sir James Dyson described as a "businessperson" today in the Guardian. As far as I can discern using their word search tool, this is not house style, so the author of the piece has somehow eluded the scrutiny of subeditors. Sir James is married with three grown-up children.
My run of seconditus ended abruptly yesterday with the selection finishing eighth of nine. I like Aguaplano in the 6.30 at Kempton but I’m put off by the wide draw. Dembe gets the vote.
I've started playing the Billy Loughnane game because nothing is emerging from the tracker. His Dad says he's trying to find him a placement in the USA so he can learn about pace and because of CPS (Claim Protection Scheme). as I reckon was evident in his riding of Fristel in the last yesterday. He sat too far off the pace in rear a la Frank and the horse was given too much to do in the finish. I expect him to learn. He has the scope to be the next big thing and I expect on his return there will be several trainers trainers trying to secure his services in races such as the Lincoln. I've done his first 3 in a small patent today with
Fristel is in again at Kempton on Monday. Perhaps he needed that to blow the cobwebs away. Each time he's had a break he has been held up off the pace next time. Not been jocked up yet so maybe he'll skip that engagement.
Very well done to those who have managed to select winners in January as it’s been a dire month for me thus far. In over 45 years of backing horses I’ve only ever had a poor run like this about 200 times before! Mille Miglia in the 20.00 at Kempton is my selection today and therefore effectively saddled with carrying an extra stone.
Bernadine won at 9 to 1. Ew nap
