Southwold is a small town on the East Coast in the County of Suffolk. For some unkown reason we used to holiday there for 2 weeks most summers in the 1960's. Its major claim to fame was and remains is that it is the home of Adnams Brewery. In 1973 my father decided (my mother was never consulted) that we were going to move there, although he remained in London only coming up at weekends. In those days it was a typical small town with banks, building societies, small shops etc.
Fast forward nearly 50 years and the permanent population has halved. While in the UK last year, I visited the place. Nowadays, it has become a place full of designer people driving designer cars, wearing designer clothes, shopping at designer shops and walking designer dogs (no mutts allowed). The best we managed was having 2 designer Siamese cats, one of whom enjoyed going to the pub with me down the road.
However, the golf club still has a picture of me in the clubhouse commemorating my becoming the first club member to win a Suffolk County Title in 1974.
It is relatively convenient getting to Newmarket & Yarmouth.
Norwich is a great city and still has real shops. One of the shocks after moving to Southwold and going to the High School in Beccles (right on the border with Norfolk) was hearing the local accents. The major surprise was that the number of Norwich City supporters at the school vastly outnumbered the Ipswich Town ones. As a Chelsea supporter, I obviously felt superior to both sets..
Never been to Southwold but drank Adnams and the brand is Solid in my mind.
I never sent a Pint back to the Bar.
Suffolk is strangely inaccessible. I work around Stansted Airport and not the obvious London Termini of Liverpool Street or Fenchurch Street where there was a recent period when it took up to 5 hours from London to Norwich by Rail due to Railworks.
Now it is down to close to 2 hours and I really like Norwich.
Yesterday my Julie Camacho trained selection ran like a blocked drain. I'm hoping this one will perform rather differently. Titian in the 17.30 at Chepstow.
When I said I've got nothing here - I hadn't seen Totnes that won at 4/1.
Mind you the Racing League excites me about as much as the Shergar Cup. At least they have the decency on Saturday of showing a few other races on ITV...
Manchester Originals were a shambles last night. I gave up when Buttler was out. In another twist of fabricated entertainment for our benefit tonight we have the Racing League. Can't decide how unsupportive the racing schedulers are being. The cricket matches have scant alternative games. Racing has 4 other cards today. The entries to those cards don't look to have suffered with about 1 horse per race on average less. Oh and I'm nearly wetting myself in anticipation of the Shergar Cup on Saturday.
Nap Salisbury 1720 Mitwaa
Everything is right around this horse save for one thing, its been bloody awful on course. At least Crowley gets the leg up today though for some reason I can't forsee a driving finish.
My only suggestion for the RL would be small multiples with Saffie's mounts.
