No Wednesday winners that I can see; as ever, comment here is I've missed something.
All the best for Aintree. Am looking seriously through the National as my long term high hope Fortescue looks like he won't get in. Value at the moment looks to be in Fiddlerontheroof. I think it says much for him given the travails of the Tizzard yard's form over the last two seasons that he remains hugely consistent. He has a touch of class and I suspect the trip will be fine. Could be single figures by the off; currently 14s.
And I cannot believe 50s is available about the gritty, improving Two For Gold.
Joe
today I had a pound e/w treble/double on clans des obeaux (7/1), porlock bay (7/1) and the last day (12/1). Great return on by outlay but naturally my win nap was the one that didn't win. Isn't it always the case....
Knight Salute Won EW Nap....just in from work and checked the results.....bullseye
Delighted for Milton Harris, who would have been happy with the dead heat. But the stewards have got that one very wrong, in my opinion. Why bother interviewing the jockeys when what they (Paddy Brennan in particular there) say is ignored?
NAP Fautinette 2.20 Aintree 16/1, first run in UK (bought from France) from Venetia's yard.
Cousin Pascal. Aintree 4.05.
Recently my selections have not been repaying the time invested in studying, form, ground etc., so today I’m simply relying on the genius of Willie Mullins to reap the benefit of bypassing Cheltenham with Kemboy. That’s the nap in the 14.55 at Aintree.
Let's go for a nice price winner, porlock bay 16:05 nap (currently 7s, sky paying 6 places)
I came into the week fancying Protektorat strongly; he seems to love Aintree and assuming he's recovered from Cheltenham (always a consideration at this meeting - some will flop badly) he ought to win. But I cannot get away from the value presented by Bristol De Mai at around 25/1. Skybet pay 4 places and I think he will take an awful lot of beating out of a place.
This is arguably his first season where he has never been under the recovery strain of a massive run in something like The Betfair (pulled up) or the Gold Cup. He's rewarded connections with two cracking runs at Lingfield and Haydock. He's not what he was but he's still a high class horse who, contrary to widely held opinion, goes well on good ground - at least he did in his heyday; I hope that's still the case. I dislike going EW on naps simply because of the trade off on the day you do pick a big priced winner, effectively losing half your stake. But there's no doubt the sensible bet is EW. Still, Bristol De Mai for me, 2.55, on the nose!
I like Pic D'Orhy a lot and thought he won with a fair bit in hand last time. He could be blooming into the horse connections had always hoped he'll be, and I'll be backing him.
It must be great being Fox Pitt married to Alice as every time they make love it must be 'amazing' 'unbelievable' 'what a story' and the 'best ever'. Up here int' north women tend to be more down to Earth and have stock phrases like 'is that it?'
Last couple of selections have been in races that haven't gone to plan. I'm thinking of putting a claim in for Archiano as he passed the post first, albeit without Buick who he'd left behind in the stalls. I've done Erne River as I've a lot of respect for his trainer. As its gone I'll plump for a cliff horse
Nap Aintree 1530 Brewinupastorm
4.40 King D'argent
Longshanks - 14.10 Ffon Las
The prices of yesterdays Catterick winners suggests the flat isnt going to be easy....
Today tho a good card at Aintree, looking forward to it. i'll take Protekorat as the nap in the 2.55.
Interesting jockey booking for Sara Bradstock's runner in the 4:05 Aintree
Erne River Aintree 13.45 is the Nap. I also like Gaelik Coast later in the day.
Nap 2.55 Aintree - Conflated
The 18.30 at Gowran Park has an interesting SF with Wordsworth to beat his ex-Stablemate Barbados.
Aintree looks tricky today where everybody can beat everybody and only in the last at 17.15 I will carry my nap with Rosy Redrum.
L’Astronome won yesterday for the French Connection .
Knight Salute 14:20 Aintree EW Nap
