Four profitable returns yesterday from Leo, Alan, Pebbles, and David - well done. If I've left anyone out, I apologise; please leave a message on this thread and I'll update.
The improvement in Slate Lane (NA 4.25) for the move from Paul Hennessy to Emmet Mullins is mind boggling. He's three from three on UK tracks now and he looks a machine, albeit in lowkly company. Paul Byrne has another burgeoning (and highly saleable) talent on his hands.
Rather than spending any more time looking at today's racing, I've been reading a few articles about last week's Select Committee:
Why is there this insistance to lump in sports betting with other forms of gambling - and there were some really dumb things said by the Gambling Commission, who may have (surprise, surprise) people in charge who don't know what they are talking about!
Having ducked any pressure on limiting TV advertising further, the guy claimed there wasn't direct evidence it was harmful... (The research in UK isn't there as Bookies would be funding it - but they've had 3 years plus to get it done if they wanted.)... It's blatantly obvious that large betting firms are spending huge amounts to entice people to spend more, which will affect those that DO have a problem with gambling.
Also trying to put their head in the sand about growth of the Black Market, when there is evidence, particularly in Asia, of a large growth in illegal betting companies, and money is coming from international criminal gangs. I'm no expert, but just saying 'no one has shown me the evidence', when you are the person who is meant to be looking for the evidence, to make a reasoned judgement, is pathetic!
I could go on...
I wonder how many jockeys Amo Racing will get through in the next couple of years?
As usual, Joorabchian, has taken no time in muddying the water about the reasons... a look at his Wiki entry immediately gives a taste of opaqueness in which he likes to conduct business:
"The Joorabchian family emigrated from Iran following the fall of the Shah in 1979. They went to the United Kingdom and then Canada, returning to England when Joorabchian was 6."
That's quite a feat for someone who was apparently born in 1971!! Left Iran aged 8, went UK, Canada (long enough to claim joint nationality at some point), and then came back to the UK aged SIX...
Also following Worcester watering, Uggy isn't running. Newton Abbot also watered, we had big thunderstorms early Sunday morning, now good to soft (at best). Perth watered, then had 34mm of rain yesterday!!
Greg Wood's recent Guardian piece on affordability checks is a useful summary. I'm not optimistic that good sense will prevail. When doies it ever prevail in this country? I am mentally preparing myself to being an ex-punter.
Five John the Baptists as a sultry Roman youth, three as a rather disconsolate head on a plate. In none of them, inexplicably, does John wear the fur of wild beasts or eat honey. The artist recruited street boys as his models -You sense in each painting that he has a Lambretta parked just around the corner.

La Espanola (ew) - 16.05 Brighton
I'm napping against Jake today but that's the way the cards have fallen..Wilderness Newron Abbot 5pm
Karanelle 5.00 Newton Abbott is the nap, well done yesterdays winners.
Malangen - 16.15 Perth
I think City Of Troy will always find a reason not to turn up.
I don't understand how he missed the Phoenix or Morny with the strength in depth Ballydoyle have.
it was never necessary for him to be entered yesterday
Henry Longfellow was always a shoo-in for the Vincent O'Brien National Stakes and for the Dewhurst and 200 Guineas.
Diego Velasquez will probably go Beresford/Futurity and Derby Trial then win the Derby next year.
Henry Adams is back-up for the Guineas.
City Of Troy must he niggly.
He needs to show up in the Middle Park Stakes or not at all.
My nap today is John The Baptist. e.w. 16.15. Perth. Bottom of the H'Cap where he belongs.
I think he can never be the most napped Horse on this Forum as Brian The Snail must hold that record.
Many on this Forum do say the same corny thing every time about John The Baptist.
To win by a Head.
Apparently his dad Caravaggio painted 5 versions of John The Baptist and the one in Toledo is on my Bucket List (pretentious, moi!)
