Simple Sondheim wins at 8 to 13. - Unadventurous nap but easy win. Buick going well and there is some low lying fruit looking at what he'a on at minute.
Some people have a generalised sense of the malaise in British racing yet cannot see beyond these shores to learn how things could be done so much better. Here's a small case in point.
Lady Rockstar - ex Haggas but still running for Steve Parkin, founder of Clipper Logistics - is making hay in the United States. She ran off a rating of 110 at Belmont last night, after being a mid-70s handicapper on the AW here. Parkin has sold his share in Clipper Logistics now so runs them under his own name in the States, though not yet in the UK so far as I can see. Not a particularly nice man so I hear, but a shrewd businessman. The mare has won $100k in two races now, having earned the princely sum of 3k in a Wolves maiden.
With many horses being sold to race not only in the States but the Middle East, Hong Kong and Australia, it is inevitable that the quality of stock running in Britain will decline when breeders can get good money from overseas buyers. And UK-based owners are seeing the financial sense in looking to Europe in their race planning to take advantage of the breeders premiums, subsidised travel costs and other incentives offered by overseas jurisdictions. We need to wake up and shake up before we become a sad backwater in the global racing scene.
I was looking at the 14.20 at Gowran Park and the first 2 names on the Racecard are called Laugh A Minute and Laughifuwant.
How the hell can anyone decide which of those 2 Horses to back and I have undergone expensive Therapy?
I am currently in Florence and have a booking for Palazzo Medici today and I should nap Riccardi Medici in the 16.05 at Gowran but I don't know about you but he is one of my least favourite Medicis. I always liked Cosimo Medici so will give that a miss.
My nap has to be Talbot in the 16.40 at Gowran.
There is a Talbot street on many Towns in Ireland and one just off the main thouraghfare in Dublin.
Matt Talbot was a legend in his lifetime who self flaggeled as a Penitent on the streets of Dublin and when he died early in life on those streets he was wrapped in chains and had bodily evidence of self mortification.
For some reason he has never been canonised and yet Plunkett has.
On a School trip I once had to stare at the pickled head of Oliver Plunkett in Drogheda Cathedral just before his canonisation for a full hour.
@Loose Buttons Many thanks. Going to fly from Pisa Airport to Cork today and won't be shy to fork out for a Taxi from Florence if I see trouble. Not the best country for providing Rail updates.
