Two Sunday returns courtesy of Highflying and Alan - wel done. If I've left anyone out, I apologise; please leave a message on this thread and I'll update.
It seems like yesterday Annie Power was romping home in the Champion Hurdle. In gfact it was sebven years ago. Now her son Mystical Power wins first time over hurdles at Galway, looking very comfortable in the testing ground. If you tried to dream up a pedigree ideally suited to a future Champion Hurdle winner, Galileo X Annie Power would be a good shout. A super-rich triumvirate of JP McManus, Mrs Magnier and Mrs Ricci own this one.
Retirement Beckons in that race is a horse I keep backing if he is a decent price,he has rewarded me a couple of times but mostly the money is left behind, heres hoping.
Apologies in advance for a couple of rants this sunny morning, but in order to possibly overtake Jake in the naps table I need a long price nap winning in order to spend a week quaffing Champagne at the Horsetalk Mansion and I can't find one I like. None of my trackers or previous winners fit the bill.
It seems to me that with some exceptions, the crop of French 3YO's are superior to the UK & Irish horses.
Having watched a number of races from the USA and France recently, their loading of the stalls is achieved a lot quicker than in the UK. The reason to my eyes is that both counties employ more stall handlers. Is it any wonder why there so many late withdrawals down at the post.
Line Out in the 18:40 at Galway to recapture past glories.
I'm not overly impressed by this season's classic generation. A Rodin may be the best but can you rely on him? Lissen went to great pains after the Derby to explain what went wrong in the Guineas. He may have been absolutely spot on but a cynic like me notes he has a huge breeding operation to support and he is going to labour the point that he has always thought him magnificent. He'll be a fortune at stud but would you choose to send a prize filly to him? I think I'd wait to see how well the first crop do.
The stand out 3 yr old for me is Shaquille who has taken on and stuffed his elders. I'll be looking to the July Cup form tomorrow and Kinross winning the Lennox.
Lissen is a good first name but Lissen Rishi would give him a Surname.
The only reason I refer to him as APOB is that in the old Irish-Racing website before it was revamped if you tried the initials AOB to find recent Record and Entries at least 100 Trainers were matched.
Only by inputting APOB could I nail him first time.
Well done to Songo, who beat the 2nd by 11 lengths, and my selection by 28 lengths, well it was a longshot.... Evan Williams is in good form and does well with horses first time out, but couldn't land a glove on Milton's today :P
2 ex-Ballydoyle in a valuable H'Cap at Ballybrit at 18.40 .
I pity the Tourists who think they can circumnavigate Galway this week on their way to Connemara or Mayo in their rental vehicles as that won't happen. There will be no traffic movement and a supply of water and tinned food and switch the engine off to conserve your vital fuel is my travel advice. Ballybrit is at at the Crux of the most disheartening Ring Road system of any City in Ireland (although it is actually not a City. Only 4 Cities in Ireland were granted Royal Charters and not Galway)
They are Cougar and Hms Seahorse.
I will back both but if push comes ro shove I will take the latter e.w. as my nap as he is around 20/1
My e.w. nap Hms Seahorse came 4th in a large H'Cap field at 18.40 at Galway. He shortened to 10/1.
My Bookmaker paid out but does this Blog count as a place?
