A good Thursday with winners from Luke, JD, Highflying, and EGS - well done. If I've left anyone out, I apologise; please leave a message on this thread and I'll update.
Bit of a sweetie shop road to ruin today. Sorry Luke but I've a sneaking for Marine Wave. Queen Me has run a couple of very good races in top G1s so really she should be a short priced fav, but Fahey has said before how much he likes his and there must have been plenty of £s for her to jt fav. You may have just picked the best value.
Today's no hoper is SWMBO inspired
Nap Ayr 1525 Cold Stare
which is what she gave me when I was summoned this morning.
Some time ago, I posted a note related to Consett about buying Premium Bonds at £3 a go in the 1970s when we could afford it, amassing a total of £41. We never won. Until recently, that is. Yes..a winner after 45 years! How much? £25. We spilt the winnings 50-50. We still have the bonds.
A very bad investment, of course. However, the "stake" is never lost. This handful of bonds has far more sentimental value for us than their monetary value.
Overall, bond winning probability re-inforces my view that statistical probability is a cast iron methodology. Yes, one person in a thousand will be "lucky", but 999 will not. "Luck" is a human wish fulfillment and a goldmine for the bookies.
Nonetheless, i shall be looking for a winner (at small stakes) at Ayr today. Human, all too human.
Yes, you are right, Joe's was a fantastic win! Decades of assiduous application eventually rewarded. I recollect that Alan had a great win, too with a small stakes, something like a Lucky 15 not so long ago. I like to hear about such wins.
Though, as has been said elsewhere, one can enjoy horseracing without having a bet.
A lovely post, which turned into a cracking thread. My only wee contribution is when I was getting a bit of value about 25 years ago when some bank, I think it was MBNA, invited credit card holders to take a loan of up to £4,000 interest free for a year. I used it to buy £4,000 worh of Premium Bonds, and cashed them in a year later to repay the loan. I 'won' about £230 in PB divis.
Joe, when I was trying to find out by reference number whether my single bond was a winner I noticed a fair number of people with 50k's worth appeared to win something virtually every month. I live in hope my single bond will win something I day. It's always the hope that kills you.
