A storming finish to the month from JD with 18/1 winner Signora Bellissima - very well done. If I've left anyone out, I apologise; please leave a message on this thread and I'll update.

Jake wins the monthly prize yet again. I ran out of plaudits for Jake quite some time ago, and i suspect you feel the same: his ability to keep finding time after time at the long end of the market is incredible. Very well done, Jake.

JD, EGS, and David also made a healthy profit, and Alan and Gforce came close to breaking even - well done, all.

New Site

The site is bare bones for now, but it is open for testing. Would you kindly go to Talkinghorses.pro and click Forum, then Register. You should get an email confirming your membership and asking you to set a password. If you have problems with anything come back to this thread please, and let me know. I am assuming you will choose the same username you have here (Jake can get back to his old self), but if you want to change it, please mention in your first post what your old name was.

If you join wthout a problem, please go to Daily Naps and use the September 1st post as you normally would here - post your nap. Please also post it here until we sort out the inevitable teething problems. NB - John pointed out that his email after registering landed in junk - worth checking.

On the August table, I will sort out the final figures and post on this thread and on the equivalent thread in Talkinghorses.pro.

I don't think it will end. I think your ability to spot a potential long odds winner has been demonstrated on numerous occasions. I doubt that it's a "good run" and I expect it to continue. Congratulations again!

I am in Foreign Climes using a phone and knew it wouldn't work.

I never use my Home Computer for anything official either.

I only use my Work Computer as that it is the only time I go into Concentrate mode and have to waste petrol every weekend to visit my workplace to organise my personal life as I can't do it at home.

I will give it a go next Wednesday in my Workplace when I am back even though a Napster will have flown the nest by then.

My initial experience is the system doesn't like El Gran Senor as un user name even though it is between the required 3-15 characters.

I have tried small case butnwill never demean myself to use a digit or exclamation mark after my name.

Congratulations again to Jake on another fantastic month. You have not just the ability to spot an outsider that can and does win, but the confidence to nap it. Ropey showed up on my previous profit makers on my betting site including at RA last year (ironically at 40/1), but i tend to dismiss these long odds horses as what did I see in them, when clearly no one else does.

It's clearly a lesson I've never learned. I remember over 40 years at a Newmarket evening meeting watching the 3 year old maidens in the parade ring and selecting 2 possibilities (Noualargo (Sp?)and Noumeyer), both at 33s. My father, who was with me, said never back 2 in a race as you're guaranteed a loser, so I backed only 1. Of couse Noualargo came second beaten by Noumeyer. Even now I can remenber the on course announcer saying the DF paid 38.20 to a 20p Stake to gasps from the crowd. A couple of races later i fancied another outsider (Brookline) which again won, obviously w/o my 2 quid ew.. For the last race, I finally decided to back my gut and threw a fiver on a 20/1 shot (Royal Kingdom) to win (no ew) and it did, so along with the winner of the first race (Nationwide) it wasn't a bad day. However, it could have been a simply great day.

Yacowlfef ew in the 19:52 at Saratoga.

Another old fav. At 7 they think the application of cheelpieces has improved him. Getting to the top of what I reckon is his winning rating so a bit fingers crossed. I quite like the look of Shin Jidai in the previous race. This is mainly based on an entry in the Rockfel but she is a bit short.

Well done again Jake -another cracking month. Good results from others too - anytime you make a profit or therabouts is a good month.

A question for Adrian/Dilton lookng at the small fields at Fontwell today where Milton has one out wih a live chance. Is it not worth while entering some of these races as the prize money is fairly paltry? What drives horse placement - longer term plans? Wishes of owners? The race condtions both ground and other restictions? i guess its a big picture but theres often prize money looking to go begging?

I used to get it in the neck from some owners about this .

Thing is its not so easy as it might appear.

I'm still cursing that I went to Fontwell .

I enter to a plan around a horses development. I'm a firm believer in giving them time between races ,especially when young. So that means I often look at the 4 days Dec's and mutter you idiot why didn't you stick him in that .

Hindsight is easy though isn't it.

In my head I have races that historically I've ran horses in that will suit its training timetable so I jot them down by each horse and train to that .The feeding ,building it up to the horses peak to fit the entry etc.

It's not a case of oh look there's a race that looks winnable on the day ,it takes more than that .

Problems then crop up , horse not right ,ground , and you have to adjust around the opposition at the 4 day stage. No point running unless you can hit the frame ,minimum.

Placing horses is an art form .

You won't believe the phone traffic that goes on between the bloody agents ,trainers and a certain few jocks until final Dec's day.

Keeping a racehorse sound in body is hard enough , not destroying it's mind is much harder. You can usually mend the former but not the latter ,once you break a horses heart you are done .

That's what happens when you overface a horse before it's ready to race against that class . Small steps .

I buy horses to last and train them accordingly, I'm not interested in running them for the sake of it or to give the owners a day in the sun or punters to bet it.

Look at Uggy , apart from his bumper run he's won money every time hes ran over hurdles whilst being educated and taught to race . ( if I had not cocked up by not taking him away to Kempton to gallop before the bumper he would have drawn there )

Same with Six in France ,2 runs both in the money .

That was achieved by planning and sticking to it to suit the horse ,not me ,the owners or punters .

Patience with horses is the key .

Another triumph for Jake who is rapidly becoming the Man City of this competition. Congratulations to him. Personally, I’m looking to leave mid-table mediocrity behind this month and I’ll start with Our Dylan in the 16.08 at Fontwell.
