It's great to see Sam England doing so well with her horses - three winners this month and a live chance in the novice chase at Cheltenham (2.10). She is steadily improving the qual;ity of her string and having Jonathan in the saddle as well as schooling at home is a huge bonus. Al Zaraqaan today has to prove he is more than a summer jumper, up against My Mate Mozzie and entries from Skelton and Nicholls. AZ is up against it with the penalty structure, but he is full of confidence and has plenty of fencing experience now, which is invaluable on this trappy course for novices. He showed a fair bit of promise for Archie Watson last year but he than plateaued and Archie lost patience, stuck hiom in a claimer and Sam snapped him up. It has proved a shrewd move.
i'm Jumping on a bandwagon here but i'm on Black Poppy Chelt 13.35 as well as i too have been following Kerry Lee start to season and I always ike her at Cheltenham! I dont even like being on a nap in an early race but if i dont nap it having picked it and it wins i'll kick myself!
First Cheltenham meeting of the season so where better to go for today's selection............ than a Class 6 stayers handicap at Wolverhampton! Kitten's Dream (ew) in the 19.15.
Phil Kirby has had the well handicapped Jason the Militant for 12 months now. Runs in the opener at Cheltenham. Thought today might be a spin before a tilt at the Greatwood next month. He's not entered.
He's been nibbled at today ( 40s last night ). I'll pass though. A couple of young progressive types in here, he has to give weight to.
It's a pity they put him up 7lb for getting beaten the other day. It takes a good horse to win this race - in 2022 it was won by Seddon who went close in the American Grand National last weekend.
I suffered from rubbish decision making as I wa n't going to back them all. At Carlisle the winners were Mellificent, too short to back, Hello Judge 😄, Russian Virtue 😥 ignored,Travail d'Orf 😥 ignored, a couple to keep watching, Hometown Boy and Jet legs and a couple of bad choices, Holly (prob a project) and Ghandi Maker. Giovinco unlucky. I largely ignored the Ludlow ones where Hardy Fella was going like a winner until he whacked one, Saunton Surf was ok and Poetic Music a 'disappointment'.
