Four Thursday winners; May is off to a good start, bar the fact we still need coats and electric blankets here on Bute. If I've left anyone out, I apologise; please leave a message on this thread and I'll update.
Full Noise (Downpatrick 7.25) is one of Ronan McNally's final runners before he relinquishes his licence, and typically the bookies are showing an absurd overreaction to his horse's chance. He was about 7/2 when betting opened yesterday and now they have him at almost 4/7 with the thumb. They are not giving an inch, the mean old so-and-sos, and nor is the Irish handicapper who left Full Noise on the same mark despite him finishing a long last on his first run for a year.
To channel Keegan, I would love it if he were to dead heat with Likable Chancer. What fun at the presentation!
Looks like Kim Bailey's team are lumping on Dandy Dan to retain his crown in the Mixed Open hunter chase at Cheltenham. Owner Phil Andrews has several good horses with Kim, and the young jockey works at the yard. She rode this fella very well last year. However, she didn't have the Cheltenham Hunter Chase champion up against her then, and all things being equal Premier Magic should win if getting round. Earlier today I had a good bet on Dandy in the betting without market, when 9/2 was available, so come on Lauren!
The ratings told their own story there. Premier Magic proved his festival win at 66/1 was no flash in the pan and is probably a stone better than these. Dandy Dan hardly jumped a twig and made life difficult for Lauren.
It is a dark film. Sidney Lumet was a fine film director. I think it won awards and it should have been more popular, but perhaps it just did not fit with public taste at the time. It has stood the test of time, though.
I once "met" Ian Hendry in Brighton at a sort of Arts Lab in 1969. I think it was called the Brighton Combination. I was with a friend of mine whose father was a film director and he had arranged to meet Ian Hendry about some production. However, in those far off, laid back days, we were, during this meeting, quite unconcerned about the fact that a fight broke out between two people who were struggling with each other in a half hearted sort of way and who fell on the floor . The lighting was gloomy. As they encroached on our table space, apparently unable to do much apart from wrestle (I don't remember any blows being landed), we just moved a bit and lifted our feet, etc, to let them get on with it. There was no one "in charge" there, just volunteers who served French fries, burgers, muesli and cocoa until the small hours. Ian Hendry was so laid back that I could barely catch a word he said as he smoked and smiled his way through the encounter. He could not have been more opposite to the character he played in The Hill, the brutal Staff Sergeant Williams.
Perhaps if I apologise, formally, for my uncle's work on Ice Cold and, though I have no authority to do so, on behalf of the directorJ Lee Thompson, you will lose your fear of the sands on those miles of beaches near your home....
There have been several articles recently about the chances of Auguste Rodin winning the Triple Crown - this talk is surely premature, given that he hasn't even won the Guineas yet!!
I know Aidan O'Brien has helped fuel this, and Coolmore would love it - but odds of about 12-1 seem pathetic to me for something that hasn't been done in over 50 years...
A bit like a forward lacking confidence and not scoring goals Hollie rode another poor race on a fav at Redcar in a similar fashion to Trushan tother day. She had a winner so I hope that gets her back on song. Winnerless this month I hope I can turn things around with
The Guardian's lack of coverage of UK racing not least at Newmarket with the focus on (syndicated?) stories from Australia and the USA does look unbalanced and is disappointing.
Chris Cook's RP's Front Runner today mentions (among other things) A P O'Brien's comments after Rhododendron had a severe bleed from the nose when she was pulled up in 2017 in the French Oaks. O'Brien said it was the worst case of bleeding he had ever seen. This issue has been discussed quite a lot. Chris Cook goes on to note that Rhododendron went on to win two further Grade 1s. One example is notoriously not the basis of a general principle, so I guess that there must have been factors about the horse or the type of nosebleed which meant that it was not so serious?

Hi Joe,
Probably won't make any difference at business end of month but the 5 quid ew at 17 to 2 should return a notional 61 notes.
