On Thursday Highflying swooped for his second January winner, this one at 16/1. David also tipped a winner - well done both. If I've left anyone out, I apologise; please leave a message on this thread and I'll update.
Greg Wood tips Scarface for the Lanzarote as offering possible value at 20-1. The first Scarface film (aka Scarface: Shame of a Nation) was banned in some states but was hugely influential on the genre. The remake in 1983 starred Al Pacino. An odd name for a horse, but there may be a good reason related to its physical appearance.
i dont really like Scarface - its a cartoon, but love Carlito's Way the next film Pacino did with De Palma. The end still cuts me up though ive seen it many times. very under rated for me.
Must be a mispell unless this guy is a friend of the owner or whatever. Never ceases to amaze me when i see pics of explorers from that era on expedition just in woolly jumpers & hats.
Nice one Highflying hope you made a nice amount. I thought I was turning the corner but Basford has just made it 4 2nds on the bounce. so no faith in my next
I backed The Cob today. I did see the accident. I did not see the start but the commentator said that The Cob was reluctant. I agree that it is dismal and very sad for those involved. But it is an inevitable cost of the nature of the sport. I think everyone tries to make sure it won't happen.
Putting my Saturday tip up now as last week's halved in price on the Friday.
WARWICK CLASSIC CHASE SATURDAY 3PM
Volcano is a cracking little grey horse with loads of guts. He is 10lbs out of the weights here, carrying 10.2. This marks a significant step up in grade from Class 3 handicaps to this Class 1. I can’t recall if I’ve ever tipped a horse so far out of the weights, but I am happy to do so here
He is unbeaten in four runs at Warwick - winning each of those easily, one of them over this trip. Ground is forecast as heavy, which he has run on twice without success (both runs about 3 years ago). But I think his love of this track outweighs that by quite some measure.
Such is his enthusiasm for fencing, he occasionally loses concentration and hits one, but it doesn’t seem to bother him. He has fallen just once, under a 7lb amateur. Saturday’s jockey Ben Jones gets on very well with him. Trainer Sheila Lewis doesn’t have many horses and is probably best known for her stable star Straw Fan Jack, who’s won twice this season. I think Volcano has a good chance of sharing future glories with his stablemate. I’d have him here as no more than a 12/1 chance, and he is strongly recommended, Skybet’s 5 place EW terms making the bet more attractive.
I also like Nestor Park in this, a horse I’ve followed for some time. He is consistent and has run some good races. His second top Racing Post Rating came on heavy ground and he will get the trip. This is his second run of the season, having gone really well over 28f at Haydock in November, beaten just over 3 lengths. He’s improving and has a strong chance. Trainer Ben Pauling is still going well and has a 14-day strike rate for winners of 24% (placed 38%) as I write (Thursday afternoon).
Highjacked second at 12/1.
I decided to go each way today after 3 consecutive seconds. Today makes it 4 on the bounce. I should be doing forecasts.
Wasn't Highflying an EW pick?
