Mahon Point is an area of Cork City that used to be called Ringmahon and was my Political stomping ground even though I never lived near it.
It was the largest Housing Project in Europe of it's time but guess what?
Nobody thought of Schools or GP Surgeries or Corner Shops
It was barren. Tumbleweed.
Fertile territory for a left wing party you might think but we definitely didn't fare well on their doorsteps.
The wind coming in from the Harbour could cut you in half.
It is now rebranded as Mahon Point and has 2 large shopping centres with all the chains, an Omniplex and extensive Private Medical Facilities.
I think it was better before when it was called Ringmahon.
