The Vinnie Roe at Leopardstown yesterday was probably - as David pointed out - the highest class race in the British Isles all day. But the profile of the race perhaps illustrates the extent to which flat racing, in Ireland at least, is a closed shop run by the biggest owners and their coterie of trainers. Five runners wet to post: two owned by Coolmore and Coolmore/Westerberg, one by Lloyd Williams, one by the Bolgers and one by the Aga Khan. Three were trained by Aidan O'Brien and his two sons. Oh and there was a non runner, trained by an O'Brien and co-owned by Coolmore/Westerberg and Lloyd Williams.
Tossed a mental coin and it came down tails for Absolutely Flawless at Newbury and heads for
Nap Thirsk 1915 Farhhfromforgotten
which I was drawn to after trying to suss the race out as my original nudge was for Novaportion who seems a bit of a character. First go he ran a cracker after a bewildering start, next time was rubbish when expected to improve and has had his nuts off as a consequence. So much so young.
Looking ahead to tomorrow I was eyeing up the Great St Wilfred. Only 15 runners, no obvious consolation race either but there is the amusingly (to me ) titled last and I'd like to wish the Dotty Duchess a happy 70th! I'm sure she'll have a great day.
Showing my ignorance can anyone enlighten me as to why Blackrod has gone to Bethel's from Dods? Seems odd to me from under my toadstool, unless....
I can see his Stallion Brochure already even if he never wins again.
There will be a better get of jail interview with APOB if he fails in the Nunthorpe "look Richie he was babyish and is learning all the time and we are learning all the time" than losing in the Middle Park "Richie, he lost his rhythm in the dip. He is a big powerful horse and I don't think we have seen a horse with his stride length. We have to think all options next year"
I know this won't happen but if I had any financial interest in LBB I would send him to the Breeders Cup Juvenile.
I don't think APOB is attached to dirt since the demise of George Washington but it would a powerful statement to Breeders if he was to emulate his great grand daddy Johannesburg.
Zulu Tracker won at 7 to 4. That was its hat trick and it MAY have another race in it - wouldn't want to see it out too soon tho.
Infinitive in the 15:18 at Wolverhampton. Hoping Cieren Fallon can get the splits right.

Move away from the wooden spoon Jake, it’s mine!
(And to demonstrate why) Today’s selection is Smeaton’s Light in the 18.07 at Thirsk.
