Big Bad Buzz is interesting in the last at Leicester. The bookies have started to treat Ryan Potter with wary respect after a couple of touches he has pulled off this season. Hence this horse's price hasn't exactly collapsed but he was backed at 8s and 7s as soon as the prices were put up yesterday. Today it has been stable at around 9/2. It's plenty short enough on the face of it, considering his moderate form over hurdles. But BBB makes his debut in a handicap chase on a lowly mark having shown distinct promise in Irish points when trained by Sean Doyle, source of so many good jumpers over the years. After unseating at the last on his debut he did the same next time but only after being hampered two out by the fall of Pull Again Green, a nice horse who has won twice for Fergal O'Brien this winter. That race was won by the smart Fameaftertheglory of Gavin Cromwell's. Buzz managed to complete in his third point, again showing that he has something about him, enough for Potter to think him worth a punt. We'll see in a few minutes whether he was right. It's a race full of horses that, in the racing euphemism, "all have questions to answer", i.e. they are either too old, too slow, too inconsistent or too set in their ways to win another race. So it's distinctly winnable for the lightly raced 6yo favourite.
My goodness, I thought my head was filled with shite but you fellas are on a whole new level!! Wonderful stuff, I look forward to more obscure knowledge about well named nags. I am no longer allowed to use the phrase "oh, that's where they got the name from" when watching travelogues, cookery shows, the news...
@el gran senor back in 2015 I did indeed spend several enjoyable hours at the Hugh Lane. I stayed at the Belvedere Hotel just around the corner. My stay there was someone spoiled by being asked to pay for the buffet breakfast in advance. i assume they thought I was some kind of Cockney spiv, rather than the NH trainer look from my photograph at Kempton Park.
I always thought you were a West London Geezer and if someone thought you were born within the sound of Bows bells it is cultural incompetence on behalf of the Belvedere Hotel.
loose buttons is an innate at IMMA.
To kill an hour is the greatest privilege any Gallery can offer.
Chris Smith, Culture Minister in the 1997 UK Labour Government, take a bow. People do kill time when it is free entry and we in Ireland quickly followed Chris Smith that people need lunch breaks away from the Workplace.
I live in Cork and I can arrive at the lovely station Heuston Station coming down from Dublin too early but IMMA is opposite.
Jessie was Light of Foot and light of finger - she was prone to shoplifting to put top up the Bacon household's waning funds when he was a struggling artist in the 30s.
I read yesterday's entries and noticed Mr William Haggis riding in the first at Donnie. So that was the one for me - trouble was grandfather duties meant that I couldn't log on. Well done Mr William Baggs.
Skinflint in the first at Leicester will win today - but I'm too much of a skinflint to bet it.
We owned a horse many years ago, just ready to go to the races and catching the eye on the gallops, and exactly the same thing happened. Difficult to live with for a long time when we knew what we had.
With all the fuss about small fields the perils and risks of getting a horse to the sports has been brought home with SNOWFALL breaking her pelvis in her box and having to be put down.
This time of year theres always been reduced fields ,its the nature of the beast. Those who think horses ,especially NH ones ,can be started up like cars need to understand it's not so easy.
Celma Des Bois got it done at 17/2
Midgetonamission Won 10/3

Seems snowfall may have slipped in her box causing the fatal pelvic injury...hard to comprehend how delicate horses are...
