Followers of Krafty Kitchens & Bedrooms aka Ronan McNally had their first reverse for a while at Clonmel yesterday when Full Noise failed to defy a penalty at odds of 1/3. The Armagh joiner (training horses is his hobby) has had a good run of late, 7 wins in 13 races till yesterday. Full Noise was leading at the last when making a mistake and couldn't quite drag his 12st burden up in time to collar the winner.
His joinery business gets very good reviews online if you're interested.
Ah, CT my boy, you are entering the crazy world of the Haslam Holiday Home for Gentlefolk and Clapped Out Chasers, in association with McManus Industries. When I had the temerity to cross that threshold I found myself in a shitshow* of moderators, writs, summonses and dark threats from They Who Must Be Obeyed. I'm not saying I was on a par with the Tolpuddle Martyrs, but I did fel a bit "got at". Blazer didn't catch fire today but there's always another day.
* My spellchecker tried to amend this to "sideshow" or "slideshow", either of which would have added something to the merriment of the story.
Blazer in the 1.20 at Wetherby looks interesting. Classic JP / Haslam profile. 44lbs lower than highest mark. 27 lbs down since June. Likes turning left. I wonder whether the handbrake is still stuck on??
Here's one from left field. Rhubarb (Wolver 5.30) has been seriously punted (16/1 to 10/3). This mare is a 22-race maiden and Timeform describe her overall record as "uninspiring". Well maybe, but she did run OK last time when she was denied a clear run when making headway at Southwell (the stewards had a word with the jockey). The interesting thing is Hollie has been booked this evening (3 rides in the last year, 0 wins), and even more interesting is that Rhubarb is trained by Richard Price - yes that's right, he who was responsible for Champion Hurdle heroine Flakey Dove. He is still tipping away from the family farm in Leominster where his uncle Gordon sent out loads of winners under both codes, most famously Pearl Run, Shady Dove (Flakey's dam) and Stans Pride, 100/1 third in the Champion Hurdle behind See You Then. The Prices had plenty on that day, I believe. They are a real racing family - Richard's brother Cecil was a jockey too. I hope the plan comes off today!
